The goal of DPW Inspection Services is to provide consultation and technical advice and smooth the process using the nationally recognized construction safety codes and standards; as a result giving healthy/safe living conditions and environment to the community.
New buildings, additions, alterations, repairs, demolitions, changes involving sprinkler systems, fire alarms, fire suppression, plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems will require a permit followed by inspection of the construction.
Current Model & Life Safety Codes adopted by the City of Burlington with the primary discipline:
- Boiler & Pressure Vessel: 2004 National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspection Code (Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector)
- Electrical: 2008 National Electrical Code and the 2008 Vermont Electrical Safety Rules (Electrical Inspector) - available at the Fletcher Free Library
- Fire Safety: Inner Fire District Map
- HVAC: 2006 Uniform Fire Code NFPA 1 with 2002 NFPA 90A (Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector)
- Life Safety: 2006 NFPA 101 Life Safety Code (Building Official)
- Natural Gas: 2006 NFPA 54 Natural Gas Code (Plumbing/Mechanical inspector)
- Plumbing: 2003 International Plumbing Code W/2005 State of Vermont Plumbing Rules (Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector)
