The goal of DPW Inspection Services is to provide consultation and technical advice and smooth the process using the nationally recognized construction safety codes and standards; as a result giving healthy/safe living conditions and environment to the community.

New buildings, additions, alterations, repairs, demolitions, changes involving sprinkler systems, fire alarms, fire suppression, plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems will require a permit followed by inspection of the construction.

The primary model codes adopted in the City of Burlington include:

  • The Uniform Fire Code, NFPA 1, the 2006 edition
  • The Life Safety Code, NFPA 101, the 2006 edition
  • The National Board Inspection Code, National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors, 2004
  • The International Plumbing Code, IPC, the 2003 edition
  • The International Building Code, IBC, the 2006 edition
